The first COASTRUST workshop for primary school children on environmental activities took place in Mostar (Herzegovina-Neretva Canton) on April 3, 2025.
Nineteen children from first to seventh grade actively participated.
Basic thoughts (key words) about water:
- how we can stop wasting water
- what is waste
- what is garbage
- flora, fauna and natural values around us were connected with physical (warm up) activities.
Children were very interested in the interactive story about biodiversity. Using flashcards the story about waters, coasts, flora, fauna and importance of environmental protection was presented.
Interesting examples were given to children about recycling: from 500 cans a bicycle can be and from 15 plastic bottles a jacket can be made.
Jeopardy game made the atmosphere even more positive. Everyone actively participated and enjoyed discovering the solution fields which included: flora, fauna, water, Neretva River, Hutovo Blato and Adriatic coast (Neum).
Children were inspired and made their own environmental flags writing positive bilingual messages and ‘green’ drawings about protecting Neretva River, the coast and coastal areas, the Hutovo Blato nature park and the Adriatic Sea.
Workshop ended with songs about nature and dancing.
Added value of the workshop was opportunity to learn about nature protection in English!
Two more workshops of this type are planned to be held in other cities (Čapljina and Neum) of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton.!
