On May 6th, Office of the Primeminister of Herzegovina-Neretva Canton organized second and third session of workshops/meetings for local stakeholders within the framework of the COASTRUST project at the premises of the Neum Municipality. Municipality of Neum is associated partner of the COASTRUST project and only city in the Bosnia and Herzegovina at Adriatic coast.
The event brought together stakeholders from different sectors such as local and regional authorities, NGOs and sectoral agencies with the aim of developing strategies for biodiversity conservation and sustainable management of natural resources in the Neretva Delta and Adriatic Coast (Neum). LAG sessions were opportunity for participants to discuss future guidelines for the protection and sustainable management of natural resources in this environmentally sensitive area.
A review was made of the results of the first workshop and LAG meeting especially regarding to the results of survey conducted among stakeholders related to identifying key natural values, threats to natural values, initiative objectives, legal relevance and scientific and expert evidence that highlights the need for intervention and cooperation.
Sessions continued through group work – a SWOT analysis of the capacities for joint management of the target area, which identified advantages, disadvantages, opportunities and threats in the context of future management of pilot area.
This was followed by discussion about expected impacts and benefits of the coastal management initiative in pilot area and identifying elements of an action plan.
At the end of the workshop, participants agreed that next and final LAG session will be held in Čapljina on May 22. In the meantime, all stakeholders will receive conclusions and other materials of today’s sessions, so they can give further comments and suggestions.
