The Andalusian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces presents in Níjar a strategy for sustainable coastal management for the municipality

27/05/2025

The Andalusian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FAMP), on the occasion of its participation in COASTRUST, presented last Tuesday 20th May in Níjar (Almería) a strategy for sustainable coastal management in terms of coastal stewardship for the municipality, pilot area of the project in Andalusia.

This meeting, held in person in the plenary hall of the Town Council of Níjar, brought together the group of local stakeholders that has been accompanying the design of the strategy through a participatory governance process initiated in November 2024. The work of this group, which is made up of representatives of the local, regional and state administration, business associations, sectoral agencies, development groups, non-profit organisations and various civil society agents, such as neighbourhood associations and environmental movements, has been fundamental for the preparation of this strategic planning document, which is the result of dialogue and consensus between all these actors that form part of the local ecosystem of the municipality of Níjar.

During the presentation of the strategy, FAMP, the Town Council of Nijar and all the entities participating in the participatory process have signed a memorandum of understanding that recognises the work carried out and expresses the signatories’ willingness to continue collaborating.

Environmental education activity

After the presentation of the strategy and the signing of the memorandum in the morning, FAMP’s technical team organised an environmental education activity aimed at the San José and El Pozo de los Frailes Neighbourhood Association. The aim of this activity, in the context of a project such as COASTRUST, whose methodology is based on stewardship as a tool for citizen participation, was to transmit the importance of co-responsibility in the protection of our natural spaces.
