Updates on stakeholders and schools involvement in the Province of Latina

27/05/2025

In the month of April, the Department of Architecture of Roma Tre University carried out two community involvement activities within the framework of the COASTRUST project.

An educational activity for secondary schools took place on 11/04, in collaboration with the Municipality of Latina and LINARIA association. The activity, called “A sea of ideas”, was part of a local event organized by the Municipality for the International Earth Day, and consisted of an art lab involving more than 60 children in the creative reuse of marine litter. The lab had the purpose of raising awareness on plastic pollution and its effects on marine biodiversity, and on the importance to take care of the sea through waste collection, correct sorting and reuse. The activity involved the “Don Milani” school in Latina, which is also engaged in the international initiative Eco-Schools.

On 16/04, another meeting with the stakeholders of the local action group was held, in collaboration with the Province of Latina. After a first introductory event in February and a second online meeting in March, this third appointment aimed at advancing in the definition of a shared environmental stewardship strategy for the coastal area targeted by COASTRUST, and at developing synergies with other ongoing initiatives, such as the Coast Contract. The event was structured in two thematic focus groups – “Sea, dunes and beaches stewardship” and “Hinterland stewardship to protect the marine environment” – and gathered 11 participants from local associations and public institutions, who worked together to outline the local coastal stewardship strategy. The next event is scheduled on the 13th of June, and will be aimed to finalize the strategy and launch a call for stewardship pilot actions.
