As part of the COASTRUST – Promoting shared stewardship for Mediterranean Coasts project, implemented by the Region of Western Greece through the Interreg Euro-MED 2021–2027 Programme and co-financed by the European Union via the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), a series of educational actions were carried out with students as the main protagonists.
On Thursday, June 5th, 2025, students from the 64th Primary School of Patras participated in activities focused on coastal and marine environment protection.
On Friday, June 6th, 2025, the program continued at Lousika Primary School in Western Achaia, where students engaged in creative workshops such as painting, video screenings, and discussions under the theme: “The Sea Belongs to Us: Creative Awareness Raising of Students for Coastal Ecosystems.”
“Optimism for the future and the strength to keep striving for the better comes from children. Their love for nature exceeded our expectations. It is our duty to expand their knowledge and show through action how to respect the environment,” said the Deputy Regional Governor of Achaia, Fokion Zaimis, adding that this activity reflects the broader philosophy of the COASTRUST project.
The project emphasizes the importance of participatory and ethical management of natural resources in Mediterranean coastal areas. Through such educational initiatives, the goal is to raise awareness among younger generations and empower them as active citizens with ecological responsibility. Through knowledge and experience, children become agents of change, adopting behaviors that significantly contribute to the protection of nature and marine ecosystems.
