COASTRUST holds a training seminar on coastal stewardship in Seville

21/10/2024

The city of Seville (Andalusia, Spain) hosted the first face-to-face gathering of the COASTRUST partnership on 15 and 16 October, an event organised by the Andalusian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces together with SUBMON, partner organisations of the project.

The main objective of the meeting was the sharing of a common methodology that will guide local action in each pilot area and which is based on the model of coastal stewardship as a tool for the conservation of natural, cultural and landscape values of the Mediterranean coast, all through voluntary agreements between local actors in an exercise of multilevel governance.

The contents of this seminar have been designed and delivered by SUBMON, project partner dedicated to the conservation, study and dissemination of the marine environment from a social perspective and oriented towards sustainable development. With the aim of gathering the contributions of each of the organisations involved, as well as reaching a consensus on a shared methodology inspired by the coastal stewardship agreements, this methodology is expected to take into account the particularities of the different Mediterranean areas where the project is being implemented. To this end, the seminar was conceived from a participatory approach, including dynamics and working groups.

The session also included the participation of other experts in land stewardship who illustrated the roadmap through cases of good practices and previous experiences.

The training session was held at the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Activity Centre of the MAS Foundation in Seville, where representatives of the nine partner organisations that make up the COASTRUST international partnership gathered. They were accompanied, in addition, by a series of local facilitators who, due to their experience in coastal management, their involvement and capacity to influence in the pilot areas selected for the local implementation of the project, will allow for a more effective achievement of the results expected in COASTRUST.
