On the occasion of FAMP’s participation in COASTRUST, a virtual session was organised on Tuesday 25th February with the presence of the Secretary General of FAMP, Yolanda Sáez, whose main objective was to advance in the design of a strategy for the sustainable management of the coastline with a focus on the stewardship methodology for the municipality of Níjar (Almería), the project’s pilot area in Andalusia (Spain).
This virtual meeting, organised with the collaboration of the Níjar City Council, was attended by the Local Action Group (LAG) consolidated last November after the first face-to-face meeting held in Níjar. Composed of representatives of the local, regional and state administration, business associations, sectoral agencies, development groups, non-profit organisations and several civil society agents, such as neighbourhood associations or environmental movements, this Local Action Group has become the core of the local implementation of the project.
In November, thanks to their knowledge of the local context, a diagnosis of the challenges, opportunities, possible areas of intervention and potential actions was drawn up. This has become the starting point for the elaboration of the aforementioned strategy for the sustainable management of the coastline with a focus on the stewardship methodology that the project plans to make available to the Níjar City Council and the citizens.
This new LAG meeting was an opportunity to present the conclusions drawn from the participatory process initiated in November during the face-to-face meeting in Nijar, to validate the proposed contents and to gather new contributions.
