The Sea Belongs to Us: Creatively Raising Student Awareness of Coastal Ecosystems

08/06/2025

On Friday, June 6, 2025, and within the framework of Active Citizen Actions, a representative of the Region of Western Greece  and a representative of the University of Patras visited Primary School of Lousika and, in collaboration, presented the event to children of all classes “The Sea Belongs to Us: Creative Awareness Raising of Students for Coastal Ecosystems” through the European project COASTRUST, which aims to inform and activate students regarding the protection of the coastal and marine environment.

The children watched the presentation with great interest and then presented on paper what they learned from what they heard and saw and how the seas and coasts should be free from pollution and waste.
At the end, they also received a souvenir gift (a bag, a hat and a water bottle – a gift from the Region of Western Greece) useful for their summer holidays! The event was attended and honored with their presence by the president of the Soudeniotes Association, Mr.Lakis Zafeirakopoulos, the president of the Community of Lousikas, Mr. Spyros Papadopoulos, the Deputy Mayor for Education of the Municipality of Western Achaia, Mr. Vasilis Karvouniaris and the Deputy Regional Governor of Western Greece, Mr. Fokion Zaimis who also distributed the gifts to the children. We thank them very much and hope for similar actions by the Region in our school, which as a regional school does not often have such opportunities.
