A cleanup of the underwater and coastal area was held on Sunday, 10 May 2026, in Neum, with the aim of preserving the marine ecosystem and raising awareness about the importance of responsible environmental practices. The action was organized by the Office of the Prime Minister of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton in cooperation with a local stakeholder, the Neum Diving Club, within the COASTRUST project.
The activity brought together divers, representatives of the local community, volunteers, and partners who jointly contributed to the removal of waste from the sea and the coastline. Cleaning activities were carried out at several locations, including Hotel Zenit, Hotel Sunce, Hotel Neum, Poštari, Druga strana, and Surdup. Various types of waste were collected during the operation, all of which pose a threat to marine life and the quality of the coastal environment.
A number of diving clubs from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia participated in the action, along with local stakeholders who have been actively contributing for years to the preservation of the Neum underwater environment and the promotion of environmental protection. Their engagement highlights the importance of continuous action, as well as strong cooperation between institutions, civil society, and the local community in addressing marine conservation challenges.
