The “Bella e Fragile” (Beautiful and Fragile) initiative was successfully carried out by Istituto Pangea ETS with the support of the Department of Architecture of Roma Tre University within the framework of the Interreg Euro-MED project COASTRUST – Promoting Shared Custody for Mediterranean Coasts.
The initiative aimed to raise awareness among students, citizens, and tourists about the importance of protecting the dune ecosystem within the Circeo National Park. Through a series of educational and community activities, participants explored the ecological value and vulnerability of coastal dunes, while learning about biodiversity and the impact of waste on these fragile environments.
The educational programme involved 10 school classes from Sabaudia, participating in activities held at the “M. Zei” Sea and Coast Museum, along the Park’s dune system, and in classrooms, where students developed communication materials focused on ecosystem protection. The participating classes also took part in a final event to present the outcomes of their work.
In addition, eight free activities were organised for citizens and tourists along the dune area between the town of Sabaudia and Via della Lavorazione (Bufalara area), on 8 and 27 December, 3 and 18 January, 1 and 15 February, and 1 and 8 March, encouraging the local community and visitors to discover and appreciate the importance of conserving coastal dune ecosystems.
