As part of the 2026 EU Projects Open Days, The Regional Development Agency of the Dubrovnik-Neretva County – DUNEA is organizing a clean-up action in the Neretva River estuary area, aiming to preserve this exceptionally valuable natural environment. The action is being carried out through two ongoing projects – COASTRUST and SeaClear 2.0.
The clean-up action will take place on Friday, May 8, 2026, starting at 10:30 AM, simultaneously at two locations – the Opuzen and Komin estuaries of the Neretva River, where two organized volunteer groups will operate.
At the Opuzen estuary, activities will be conducted within the COASTRUST project, with the participation of students and teachers from the Secondary Agricultural and Technical School in Opuzen. At the Komin estuary, the action will be held as part of the SeaClear 2.0 project, in cooperation with students and teachers from the Fra Andrija Kačić Miošić Secondary School in Ploče.
During the action, special attention will be given to separating HDPE plastic, which will, after collection, be handed over to the IMPACT Association from Metković for further recycling and reuse.
The Neretva estuary is one of the most sensitive and valuable natural areas in Croatia, where freshwater and marine ecosystems intertwine. That is why activities like this have multiple benefits — not only through waste removal, but also through education and the active involvement of citizens in environmental protection.
We invite all interested citizens to join us and become part of this positive initiative. To register, please contact:
