Underwater Cleanup Action in Neum

07/05/2026

On Sunday, May 10, an underwater cleanup action will take place in Neum with the aim of preserving the marine ecosystem and raising awareness about the importance of responsible environmental behavior. The activity brings together divers, local stakeholders, and all those who wish to contribute to the protection of natural resources, encouraging collective engagement and active participation in environmental conservation.

During the action, divers will remove waste from the seabed, while the collected material will be sorted and properly disposed of, directly contributing to the reduction of marine pollution. In this way, not only is a cleaner sea achieved, but attention is also drawn to the scale of pollution and the need for more responsible behavior toward nature.

The cleanup action is supported within the COASTRUST project, in which one of the partners is the Office of the Prime Minister of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton in cooperation with the local stakeholder, the Neum Diving Club. The project is focused on the sustainable use, management, protection, and restoration of species, habitats, and ecosystems, with the active involvement of stakeholders from various sectors and citizens, in line with the European policy framework that promotes participatory approaches to biodiversity conservation. The project promotes participatory approaches to biodiversity conservation and emphasizes the importance of environmental governance at both local and community levels. Its focus is on coastal areas exposed to anthropogenic pressures, with the aim of establishing multi-stakeholder governance mechanisms that contribute to improved management of natural resources on land and at sea.

The COASTRUST project is funded through the Interreg Euro-MED Programme.
